Dr. Fran Grace shares a meditation practice for crisis situations
Dr. Fran Grace is a Professor of Religious Studies and Steward of the Meditation Program at the University of Redlands, and founding director of Inner Pathway (501c3 non-profit). She teaches an 8-week online course in the Certificate of Mental Health and Spirituality, based on her book, The Power of Love.
June 17 - Denise Spencer '12, 14
Denise Spencer is the Department Coordinator for Race & Ethnic Studies; Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies; and the Meditation Program at the University of Redlands. A University of Redlands School of Business alumna, Denise is committed to life-long learning, social justice, and creating inclusive communities. She generously volunteers her time for equity and social justice causes and to mentor others. In recognition of her "Demonstrated Leadership and Academic Excellence," Denise was inducted into the Whitehead Leadership Society of the University of Redlands School of Business in 2014. In 2013, she received the President's Award for Exceptional Service to the University of Redlands. She has developed the Listening Project: A Path to Wellness which shares the practice of effective listening as a tool for improved health and well-being. Denise reminds us that although we are apart in isolation, we are all still bound in a transcendent kind of togetherness, in community near and far in the Meditation Room.
July 1 - Dr. Wendy Farley
Wendy Farley is Rice Family Chair of Christian Spirituality and Director of the Programs in Spiritual Direction and Formation at the University of Redlands Graduate School of Theology (San Francisco Theological Seminary). Prior to coming to Redlands, she spent 28 years at Emory University, where she was Professor of Religion and Ethics and Chair of Theological Studies. At Emory her research focused on philosophical and feminist theology, comparative theology and contemplative practices, and the ethical underpinnings of thought and practice. She is interested in connections between social justice and spiritual practice and the role of contemplative practices in supporting resilience and radical compassion in dark times. She has written six books.
July 8 - Music by Sophia Ohanion '15, '19
Sophia received her Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance and Master’s Degree in Learning and Teaching at the University of Redlands. Currently, Sophia is on staff at Citrus Valley High School as a credentialed class piano teacher and musical accompanist. Before her time at Citrus Valley, Sophia was head of the piano department at San Jacinto Valley Academy, and was proud to be one of the founders of the after school music program, which allows students to participate in music courses for no cost. In conjunction with her teaching, she also serves as the organist & accompanist for Redlands United Church of Christ.
