History and Governance

In 1982, members of the University community joined with citizens from the Inland Empire to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the University of Redlands.

Out of that celebration, Town & Gown was formed.  The organization is comprised of members from both town and gown, blazing a new trail of education and service to further integrate the life of the University with the surrounding community.

Nearly three decades later, the University of Redlands Town & Gown continues its mission:
  • To promote a positive, mutually supportive relationship between the Inland Empire area (the "Town") and the University (the "Gown").
  • To provide scholarships to qualified area students.
  • To showcase cultural, athletic, academic and entertainment activities on campus.

Board of Directors
The Town & Gown Board of Directors consists of members representing Redlands alumni, Inland Empire community members, and University faculty and staff.  Together they work to further their mission, following the policies outlined in their Bylaws and Standing Rules.
