University of Redlands
Circuit through Central Europe
May 13-26, 2012

I am pleased to have the opportunity to lead a group of UoR alumni on a tour through the heart of central Europe May 13-26, 2012. Over the past 20 years, I have been familiarizing myself with the region through numerous short visits and extended stays to teach and research aspects of the region’s reintegration into the wider Europe. Starting in the historic capital of Vienna—and continuing through Bratislava, Budapest, Krakow, and Prague—we will experience the renowned monuments and cultural traditions that mark the region’s past and present vibrancy. As we travel via road, river, and rail through the five countries, a series of optional seminar and discussion sessions will explore topics from the legacy of the Austro-Hungarian Empire to the decades of division behind the Iron Curtain to the current convergence with social, political, and economic structures of a modern Europe.
